ABOUT US
Recope Mission Statement
Recope provides safe, affordable, rehabilitative fitness programming and social connections for individuals with health challenges to enhance their health and wellbeing.
Recope is a long standing non-profit organization that has been serving the District of Summerland since 1976. We are a registered charity and provide tax receipts for donations (South Okanagan Recope Society - CRA Charity #11915 8095 RR0001).
At Recope, we provide medically designed and supervised therapeutic exercise programs for adults with medical challenges to help them get moving, feel stronger, experience less pain and reclaim an active and independent life. This reduces their reliance on other, more expensive, facets of the health system and empowers them to maintain their health through fitness activities.
History
When the Summerland pool first opened in 1976 the medical staff at the Summerland hospital started an aquatic rehabilitation program for their patients who had impaired mobility due to serious accidents. Recope was born! The program has grown over the years to provide support for people with a wide variety of ailments that make it challenging for them to exercise safely at the community recreation centre.
Today
We provide services for adults of all ages with a wide range of medical challenges including orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, mental health and persistent pain management. The vast majority of our clients live in Summerland and benefit from being able to participate in local, affordable rehabilitation services within walking, scooter and town driving distance.
We run 6 aquatic and 2 land classes between 10:00 and noon each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
